OILED SEA BIRDS ON LOCAL BEACHES

I received a phone call, from local angler, Mervyn Yalland, reporting oiled sea birds on the beaches in the Start Bay area.

He called the R.S.P.C.A. who collected the bird he had recovered.

He was told they had recovered more than 300 similar birds during the past few weeks, all of which had been removed to their sanctuary for degreasing and recovery.

While there are no obvious visible oil slicks to be seen, It seems that unscrupulous crews on larger ocean going ships may have been washing out their tanks during recent stormy weather, when such activities are hard to observe and detect.

If you should find oiled sea birds whilst out on our lovely beaches, you can contact the R.S.P.C.A. National Helpline by 'phone on 0870 5555 999
