TACKLE TIPS - CLEANING HANDLE ROLLER BEARING

When stripping down your multiplier reel, the inner liner of the needle bearing through which the main shaft below the winding handle passes will on many models, come out with the shaft when it is removed.  That's fine.

However, you do not want to get all the individual needle rollers out from the cage which will usually remain within the end plate of the reel, (well not unless you need to completely replace it due to corrosion).  They can be very fiddly to replace in situ.

The best way to remove grit and rust particles is to use a cotton bud to wipe the rollers with lighter fuel.  You will be amazed just how much muck this will remove.

Whatever you do, don't immerse the complete reel end plate in a solvent cleaning bath as doing so will remove the decals which you can see on the rim of the end plate.

Allow the bearing to dry out for a couple of hours & then use another clean cotton bud to apply grease to the surface of the rollers.
