TACKLE TIPS - WASHING OFF CLUTCH COMPONENTS

In our earlier tip, when we suggested you use a camera to record the sequence of components when stripping down a reel, we threaded the components of the clutch assembly, in the correct sequence on to a piece of wire.

Instead of the range of disassociated components, it makes your life so much easier if you do this.

And there's an additional benefit.  You can retain the components on the wire and use it to hold them while you agitate them them in a plastic container, such as a "Tupperware" box, filled with white spirit.  This will easily clean them of all residues such as oil and grease.

We recommend white spirit for cleaning these components as although petroleum spirit or methylated spirits will also do the job, it is far too hazardous to have petrol fumes evaporating from an open container.  The flash ignition point of white spirit is far higher, which makes its use safer for these tasks.

Now you can suspend them overnight to dry by the same twisted wire loop.

The slight trace of lubrication which is left on the washers by this cleaning method is a benefit too.

Job done!
