TACKLE TIPS - TIGHTENING END PLATE SCREWS

Did you know there was a right and a wrong way to tighten down screws on a reels side plate?

The wrong way is to simply work your way around, tightening the screws down as you go.  This could result in distortion of the side plate.

The correct way is to work on an "opposite diagonals" principle.

The example shown is from a Shimano TLD 25.

There are seven screws and the numbers shown are an example of sequence to follow for the opposite diagonal method.

At first, only screw down lightly.  Once the plate is secured down, move around the screws giving each one a final tighten down.

Be careful not to over-tighten.

If the screws were stored in the cap of oil (see previous tip), then they will already be lubricated and protected when fitted into the reel.
