We thank Deano for a most enjoyable and productive day out. Between the four of us, we caught plenty of very hard fighting Pollack to around 16 lbs. I caught a Ling of 18½ lbs which fought like a demon. We had several more Ling and quality Whiting over 3 lbs. Dean caught the best Whiting, which was about 3½ lbs. He also caught a small Cod. Dave Challice caught several fine fish including the biggest Pollack of the day and an unusual Gurnard which looked superficially like a "Grey Gurnard" except that it had a bright golden line along its flanks. Norman showed his sea angling class when fishing a strip of Pouting fillet, mounted on a 4/0 Sakuma "Manta" hook, attached to a brand new lightweight and particularly responsive 20 - 30 lbs class Shakespeare Sporting Braid Boat Rod, fitted with an Accurate 270 reel, filled with 20 lb Berkley Crystal Braid line, he caught a fine specimen Turbot which weighed in later ashore on calibrated scales at Brixham SAC, at 23 lbs 4 ozs 3 dr, which is a personal best for this species.
Norman also caught a personal best Whiting of 3 lbs 3 ozs. A short while later he landed a magnificently marked and hard fighting Ling on the same tackle, which we weighed on board at 16½ lbs.
We've shot some video of our day afloat and Norman's epic battle. It's well worth watching. This sea angling photo journalism is a hell of a job, but someone has to do it! We've even got to do it again tomorrow! |
